How dumb can we (the US) and Israel be?
Ok, so Hizbulla and Israel had a war. A short war, but a war nonetheless.
But like most modern wars, there was no real winner – and no real loser. Both sides claim victory. Neither side was “crushed”; neither side “surrendered.”
This is not a good thing. It is common knowledge that Hizbulla gets its money – and weapons – from Syria and Iran. So, in a sense, Israel was fighting Syria and Iran – but instead of attacking THEM, which would be hard, and run the risk of provoking a counter-attack (which they might lose, especially against Iran) they instead did the cowardly thing and bombed the piss out of Lebanon – a nation with few arms, fewer soldiers, and less ability – or desire – to resist.
The idea that this is somehow “justified” because Hizbulla had taken up positions in Lebanon is folly. If Lebanon was arming and funding Hizbulla, there’d be a certain logic to this – but they’re not. Lebanon’s government, indeed, has left Hizbulla alone mostly out of fear that they could be overthrown in a civil war should they interfere, and oh by the way, the current Lebanese government is fairly pro-West in its policies.
So what now? Well, nothing really – except that Hizbulla has been emboldened, Iran and Syria know they can get away with funding a bunch of militia men without penalty, and life goes on – for now.
What happens when – not if – Iran gets ahold of a nuclear warhead?
The time to think about that little problem is now – not when the mushroom clouds are sprouting over Tel Aviv!
