Give me a break…..
Is this the “let’s see how many people we can find to take shots at Rumsfeld” week?
All these retired generals. And what’s their basic complaint? Simple – that the military is under
civilian control in this country, per our Constitution.
It’s a damn good thing it is too.
Let’s look at some of the mother-of-all-stupid-ideas that have come out of these same sorts of people who are after Rumsfeld’s head:
- Marshall, the man who many consider a saint, pushed hard to invade Europe in 1942. Had we done so, we would have had our head handed to us and might have lost WWII.
- McArthur, during the Korean conflict, attempted to widen the war. How? He proposed attacking China.
And where were these guys
before the war? Silent – that’s where. NOW, after the game has been played and the score known, they’re out there claiming they believed this baloney from the start.
Well guys, here’s the truth – these so-called “Generals” are exactly those that
should be retired, because it is their
duty to push back against the civilian control of the military if they believe in something strongly.
That is why our military is under civilian control, and why there are two sides of that control – the civilian oversight with a President as Commander in Chief, and a military brass who presumably knows how to fight and win wars putting forward their views and selling them to that civilian oversight group!If these Generals could not be bothered to voice their criticisms
before the war and stand on their merits
then – putting their careers, honor and even freedom (you CAN be court-martialed and busted in rank or even jailed for being insubordinate in the military) then what the hell are they doing
now?
Simple – covering their ass once their pensions are intact.
Cowards.
