…. Of conservative did we elect?
Certainly we did not elect a
fiscal conservative.
Nor did we elect someone who is particularly beholden to conservative
social values. Those would include enforcing immigration law, respect for the family and deepening respect for traditional marriage.
Nor did we elect a conservative
personal rights individual, as we have seen in the recent fiascos with eminent domain abuse. Where is the proposed legislation to stop that crap dead cold – at the federal level?
Yesterday I got a fundraising call from the RNC. Not surprising, to be honest – with DeLay being indicted, and the Miers nomination drawing fire from – gasp – conservatives – I guess they figured they may as well try to go to the pot and get some more honey before the lid is put on and screwed down tight.
I told ‘em the same thing I’ve told ‘em a couple of times before:
- I voted for conservatives.
- I expected them act as conservatives.
- Increasing the federal budget by one third in six years is NOT CONSERVATIVE. Removing Iraq from the equation does NOT change the numbers materially either (no, the balance of 1.8 to 2.5 trillion did not get spent on Iraq, or any other form of defense, domestic or foreign. It was spent on social programs and pork!)
- IF and WHEN I see some kind of actual conservative policy come from the RNC, I will be happy to give them some of my hard-earned money. I suggested as a first act of good faith that they get behind and pass HR-25, otherwise known as the “Fair Tax”.
Their final question for me was whether I wanted to see Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House in ’06. My reply was that as far as I was concerned, with the actions of those who I voted for last election cycle, including President Bush, we already have Nancy Pelosi running the House and Hillary Clinton as President.
The RNC’s caller hung up.
