Is Senator Landrieu out of her mind?
Really.
Yesterday, while Hurricane Rita was bearing down on Texas and threatening billions of dollars in damage, Senator Landrieu filed a bill, S.1765, mandating
two hundred and fifty BILLION dollars of spending for Lousiana – and
ONLY for Lousiana.
You name it, its in there.
Over 180 billion dollars of direct spending is specified in the bill and another 70 billion in “revenue forgiveness” in the form of incentives.
Senator Landrieu seems to have conveniently forgotten a few things:
- Lousiana wasn’t the only state impacted by Katrina. Essentially the entire coast of Mississippi was flattened. Not damaged or flooded - flattened.
- The surrounding states, most particularly Texas, which has played host without complaint to tens of thousands of Lousiana’s displaced residents, and which has not raised one peep about the cost of doing so in either dollars or social costs, was completely left out of Landrieu’s giveaway bill.
- Her bill includes everything from direct reconstruction to communications and infrastructure upgrades for the state – all funded by the federal government, and all for the benefit of Lousiana ONLY. We’re not talking about putting back what was – we’re talking about vastly improving all of it, at everyone’s expense EXCEPT her constituents.
- Her bill even includes direct payment of mortgages for people who had their homes damaged or destroyed by the storm – without regard to whether they had bothered to purchase adequate insurance on their own against flood (the majority DID NOT, despite living below sea level!) or even windstorm insurance!
- Lousiana’s Homeland Security Department had three people under indictment (see my previous entry on this blog) for misappropriating federal money intended for flood control at the time of Katrina. Her state has a long history of stealing money intended for public use and funneling it to various corrupt individuals and firms. Now, having had the chickens come home to roost, she wants preferential treatment?!
Finally, if that wasn’t enough, Senator Landrieu filed this bill
while another storm was bearing down on Texas, with the obvious and explicit purpose of insuring that she gets “first in line” at the federal trough.Folks, this is an outrage. It is a direct slap in the face not only to those in Mississippi who have not gone screaming and yelling for preferential treatment, it is an even worse slap in the face at Texas, which has taken in a huge percentage of the Lousiana folks displaced by Katrina, and who are now staring down their own potentially catastrophic storm.
The good Senator from Lousiana threatened to “punch George Bush in the nose” not all that long ago.
Well, Senator Landrieu, let me make a suggestion to all of the rest of us Americans. How about the people of this nation say “bite me” to your state, to your bill, and to spending
one more dime on relief efforts in your state?
Go pound sand, The Dishonorable Mary Landrieu.
That’s right. That slapping sound you hear coming from my direction is not me committing a criminal offense against you – you’re not worth it, you worthless piece of dog squeeze.
What you just heard coming from this direction is my wallet, which has been open and flowing out money, snapping shut.
I’ll send my relief efforts to Mississippi and Texas – where they’ll be appreciated instead of responded to with an attempted grab of
TEN PERCENT of the total federal budget, while leaving everyone
ELSE, most especially those who helped
YOUR STATE THE MOST over the last three weeks, to twist in the wind.
