Cool! The Media is starting to get it!
Today, in the
Washington Post, we find – finally – media recognition of the boondoggle that Senator Landrieu has attempted to foist off on the American people.
Some snippets….
“Louisiana's congressional delegation has requested 40 billion for Army Corps of Engineers projects in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, about 10 times the annual Corps budget for the entire nation, or 16 times the amount the Corps has said it would need to protect New Orleans from a Category 5 hurricane.”
Oh boy – 16 times what the Army Corps says it needs to spend. This is a surprise? What, pray tell, is going to happen to the
rest, once the actual amount necessary gets spent? Line a bunch of pockets, you think?
Landrieu’s statement?
"We're going to
rob you, er, fight hard for every dollar," Landrieu said. "We wanted to tell people the truth:
We’re ripping off the taxpayer and fattening our wallets and those of our friends with your money, oh, wait - It's going to be an expensive recovery,
but by god we’re going to steal every dime we can , er, it will be worth the investment." Yeah, that’s the ticket.
May the American People tell Mary Landrieu and Vitter – who refused to return calls from the Washington Post – to go play with themselves.
This much is certain – you won’t see me supporting one thin dime of federal money going to Lousiana beyond that which is statutorily required under the Stafford Act. That law requires the Federal Government to fund some of the expenses of disaster recovery, most notably those related to infrastructure repairs.
For the rest? Landrieu and Vitter can pound sand, and I recommend that other like-minded Americans who are happy to help, but sick and tired of politicians robbing the American Taxpayer to feather their own nest, and those of their friends, to stuff it.
One effective way would be for citizens to start selectively donating additional money to disaster relief – exempting Lousiana from their giving, and telling Landrieu and Vitter
WHY.
Or, you could send
Landrieu or
Vitter an email…..
