Ok, so I watched the debates last night.
Then, just to make sure I wasn’t completely going out of my mind in the late night, I decided to wait until today to put this blog entry together, and take just one piece out of the debate that was the most dangerous for America – by either candidate.
Kerry won the prize.
There are some people who think that the most insane part of his position last night was the claims that he would have a “world check” on any need to use force – implying that the United Nations, or perhaps even France or Germany – would have an effective veto over our use of preemptive force in the war on terror. That was bad, but it wasn’t it.
Many people have said that the most dangerous part of his posture was in relationship to North Korea.
That’s a close second. But its instructive – because it means that Kerry simply doesn’t learn from other’s mistakes, despite what he claims.
No, his most dangerous position was in reference to Iran, and his comments about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Let me set the way-back machine to the first term of Clinton’s Presidency. During those eight years, we “engaged” North Korea, who, like Iran, claimed that they wanted nuclear power for electrical generation. They were quite convincing in their presentation – and made quite clear that they were willing to go it alone if they didn’t get what they wanted.
President Clinton rolled over and capitulated. We set up a “plan” for North Korea to make peaceful – and legitimate – use of the atom. It was a good plan, we were all told, we were sold it, the international community was sold it, and it was put in place.
There was only one small problem.
North Korea had no intention of honoring their commitments. Indeed, they hid their true intentions for several years, with great success. And now, with Bush President, the chickens that were fed by Bill have come home to roost – and made for a real, no-nonsense nuclear power – and not electric power either, but “boom-boom” power.
Let us get back to Iran.
John Kerry said last night that he wants to give nuclear fuel to Iran for the purpose of finding out if they want to use it peacefully or not, and to “monitor” their use.
John.
Wake up on that podium.
Your standard-bearer in the Democratic Party did exactly the same thing with North Korea and what we got for that policy, instead of telling them to cut it out or we would turn their ambitions and equipment into ash, was another country with nuclear weapons – and possibly an unstable leader who might either use or sell them.
Now this is very bad in North Korea.
It would be suicidal with Iran.
Iran, in case you haven’t paid attention, is not run by a single nutcase like North Korea is.
It is run by a whole bunch of nutcases, known as Mullahs or Imans. These guys are radical Islamic clerics, which just happens to be the hallmark of essentially every terrorist that has plagued the world over the last twenty or thirty years.
So exactly what is on your mind over there Mr. Kerry? Are you certifiably
insane? Here we have a nation that is
proven to harbor terrorists,
proven to arm them,
proven to send them into other nations (Iraq),
proven to fund them – and you want to give this very same nation the ability to develop a nuclear bomb? If Iran was to “cheat”, as did North Korea, exactly what do you think that you will be able to do about it once they have built a bomb or two – or, as we think North Korea has – six?
Are you, Mr. Kerry, looking to grow some mushrooms over Manhattan sometime in the not-so-distant future? Washington DC? Hell, how about over the top of your wonderful (and unearned) collection of Heinz mansions?
This much I know for certain – I do
NOT want any of them sprouting over my home, or that of my kid, or that of the rest of this country.
Or does this not matter since by the time the mushrooms sprout you won’t be President any more?
After all, the last time it took more than eight years – just enough time so that you could blame the problem on Mr. Bush, when in fact it was
Clinton’s policy of “engagement” with North Korea that led to them having the bomb today.
Ladies and Gentlemen, there were many clear distinctions drawn between Kerry and Bush last night.
The only one that really matters is this one – if you have any desire to remain free of a nuclear terrorist attack in the United States, then you must not support any person for President who would give the Iranians an ability to acquire nuclear materials and technology.
It really is that simple.
