Iraq .vs. DC - Where Will You Die?

I’d love to take credit for this, but I can’t…. amazing how the truth sucks sometimes though, isn’t it?

If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.

The rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000.That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington D.C

No...That is on about a million Blogs. It is actually one of those BS emails that has been circulating for MONTHS.I wish I could take credit for THIS response, but I found it on another Blog:"No, that's not the conclusion. The real conclusion is that dead Iraqis don't count as people. If you counted 30,000 to 50,000 dead Iraqis--conservative figures--you would conclude that the cities of Iraq are so dangerous we should immediately pull out of Iraq."I think it is disgusting that all of the innocent dead Iraqis that have been killed never are factored into the equation.

That'd be a nice response - if it had basis in fact.Unfortunately, you must subtract out the number of dead Iraqis per month that Saddam generated in order for your number to have meaning.When you do that, you find that over the last couple of years while we've been there the rate of death for Iraqis has gone down - even with the violent insurgency.So, while it is deplorable that there are animals over there killing their own, it is perhaps worth a smile that fewer of them are being killed than when Saddam was orchestrating the death and destruction.
